The earlier version of the Owl (CM113) was our best seller in 2008 and it's just got even better
with the new CM119 model that includes 2 important new features:
- A Memory to allow you to review your historical electricity usage. - Multliple Tariffs for different costs during different times of the day. The Owl Wireless Monitor gives you up to the second information on exactly how much electricity your whole house is using. Watch the reading rise as you turn on the TV, watch the reading fall as you walk around the house turning off items that don't need to be on. The OWL package consists of a simple sensor that clips around one of the wires to your electricity meter, a transmitter that sits by your electricity meter and the wireless LCD display that you can place wherever you think it'll be most useful. Installation is simple. Effortless energy saving begins the moment you install the OWL. To begin with, you'll notice that often the reading is higher than normal and you'll have to get up and find out what you left on. Soon this becomes 2nd nature. It's claimed that a saving of upto 25% off your electricity bill is possible. When most people first use the OWL, they are surprised how much electricity their home uses when they think it should be using virtually nothing. The thing to do is to note down the reading then go and find something to turn off, write down what the item was and the new OWL reading and keep going until the OWL reads zero. You'll then have a nice list of items to think about. A gas central heating system in the average 4 bed house uses about 120 watts (the same as 2 old fashioned filament 60W bulbs). This 120 watts is the power required to run the water pump. The OWL will tell you what your system uses. One advantage of the OWL over the plug-in power monitor is you can learn the electricity consumption of things that don't have a plug such as those energy consuming halogen lights, immersion heater, electric oven etc as well as telling you what the total consumption of all those small items in the house add up to. The display can be set to show either the number of killowatts or the average hourly cost of the electricity being consumed. With either setting, you'll soon get to know what is normal for your house so you can take action when the reading is high. As good as it is, the OWL isn't suitable for the accurate measurement of small currents such as those consumed items on standby such as TV's, DVD players's, mobile chargers's etc. For this, a device such as the Plug-in Electricity Consumption Monitor should be used This monitor is included in some of our Electricity Monitor Packs.
